Osteoarthritis (OA): Most common form of arthritis. OA is usually described as joint "wear and tear," but is much more complex. Normally affects older people, but all ages can suffer. 85 per cent of population will be affected by age 70. Fibromyalgia (FM): A common rheumatic disease, which strikes women four times as often as men. FM causes widespread pain above and below the waist. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA): RA may cause inflammation in the lining of the joints and other internal organs. It can affect all age groups, but most commonly strikes between the ages of 25 and 50 years. Others: Gout, pseudogout, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, scleroderma and infectious arthritis.
